Should I Start A Blog In 2020? (Top 10 Reasons Why You Should!) 1

Blogging has been around for a while now.

Now you can question whether it is still a good idea to start a blog and grow it in [current_date format=Y]. After all, content creation has increased rapidly in the past few years when companies began to double down on content marketing.

With so many contents and resources out there, you may be wondering if blogging is still worth it.

The short answer is YES. Blogging is still one of the best ways to earn money online and grow your business. And it is even better to start now because of all the advancement of tools and technology that makes things easier for a blogger.

If you are asking yourself “Should I Start A Blog?“, here are my 10 reasons why you should start a blog in [current_date format=Y].

1. Setting Up A Blog Is Easier Than Ever

Starting a blog back in the days (10-15 years ago) was an exhausting process.

It was a nightmare to get your blog up and running. Either you need to learn about coding, or you need to pay hundreds of dollars to set up your blog.

Nowadays, you don’t need to have any experience with coding, and you can set up your blog in 5 minutes max.

There are free blogging platforms where you can get started for free. They are much better than the past.

However, paying a few bucks for a hosting service and setting up your WordPress blog is still the best option. You will have complete control of your blog, and no one can shut you off without notice.

You can get started with a renown host like BlueHost that also offers a free domain name for your blog. It just takes a few clicks to set up WordPress with Bluehost. You can even ask them to set it up for you.

2. A Blog Is The Best Place To Express Yourself & Share Your Thoughts

We all have something to share. We have different experiences in life and, we want to share them with others.

That is why people go to social media to share their thoughts and their life, which is better than doing nothing.

But is social media really the best way to share your thoughts? The answer is most of the time no.

You have to play with the rules of the social platforms. Do one thing wrong, and your account and all your followers will go in the blink of an eye.

You can’t control other platforms.

Also, posts on social media platforms tend to die faster than on the blog. If you have an excellent blog post, it can bring you a good spike in traffic when it is first published, and then it will bring you consistent traffic from Google over time.

On the other hand, your Facebook post may get some buzz when it is first published, but after a few days, it will get lost in thousands of updates.

Also, it is much easier for introverts (like me) to share their thoughts on a blog than to share it on social media. You have your friends and family who follow every step you take on social media, but most of them probably don’t even know your blog even exists.

3. Blogging Can Improve Your English Writing Skills

When I was in high school (before I knew about blogging), I was terrible at English. Even I missed A+ in SSC exam because of getting a poor GPA in English.

One of the early motivations for me to start blogging was learning English and improving my writing skills.

I used to read and write a lot when I was in University. And it has improved my writing skills dramatically.

Writing is a skill. The more you practice it, the more you develop into a good writer. And blogging is the best way to hone your writing skill. It’s also a great way to improve your English.

Here’s another interesting thing. Back then, there were no excellent grammar checker tools like Grammarly. Now writing error-free English is not as hard as it used to be.

So even if you are bad at English, you can still start blogging.

4. Running A Blog Is The Best Way To Learn Digital Marketing

People are hooked to their phones all the time. Their attention is not on TV or Radio anymore. That makes traditional marketing ineffective.

Now is the era of Digital Marketing. Though the big companies were sceptical about digital marketing initially, now they are investing more and more in it.

A lot of opportunities have arisen over the past decades because of digital marketing. Don’t get caught far behind the trend.

Digital marketing is still getting started when you look long term, just like when traditional advertising was just getting started in the 1950s.

This is the future.

The most efficient way to learn digital marketing is to practice it, and starting a blog is the best way to get started and practice digital marketing.

5. You Can Make Money From Your Blog

When I started blogging, I had no idea that I could take it as a full-time profession. All I knew that I could make some money via AdSense.

Then I came to know about professional bloggers like Harsh Agrawal, Amit Agarwal, Syed Balkhi, Darren Rowse, and many more. All of them have scaled their business to make 7 figures/year or even 8 figures/year using their blog as the primary fuel for their growth. This gave me the confidence to take blogging as a career.

After completing my graduation, I decided to take blogging as a full-time career and have never regretted it. It’s one of the best decisions of my life. Now I make a living via blogging.

I am not telling you to take it as full-time initially. But you can take it as a side hustle. There are so many ways to make money blogging. You can make money via Advertising, Affiliate Marketing, Selling your products/services, etc.

6. You Can Help Others Via Your Blog

Blogging is a great way to share your knowledge. Every one of us has an area of expertise. And there are a lot of people out there who are interested in learning about it.

You can start a blog in any niche in which you are an expert, and you’ll be amazed by the number of people who are searching about that topic and want someone like you to share their expertise.

Even if the topic has been talked about multiple times, no one has talked about it in your voice. Maybe your voice resonates more with people than the other gurus and experts out there.

We live in an era where you can build a community around any niche. And people are doing it. I’ve seen people share things like tomato gardening tips, laces for different types of shoes, dog foods, etc.

7. You Can Grow Your Business Via Blogging

Whether you have an offline or online business, you can grow your business via blogging.

Let’s say you have a chocolate shop. You can promote your shop by sharing blog posts like –

  • Best Chocolate Brands In [Your Area]
  • Best Chocolate To Eat In Summer
  • Best Chocolate Recipes For [A Local Occasion]
  • How To Make Chocolate Ice Cream At Home
  • Best Chocolate Under 100 [Your Local Currency]

This way you can drive traffic to your blog and grow your business.

Many companies have started to double down on content marketing in the past few years, and they saw a massive increase in their business. Not to mention the number of people who knew them because of their blog.

Your blog can be a great source of consistent traffic over the long run. When your posts start ranking up on Google, you’ll generate regular visitors to your blog every month without you doing anything extra.

Then you can make them buy your products or services.

8. You Can Build Your Network Via Your Blog

Blogging can help you build a network of people because of sharing a common interest.

You can build relationships with people in the same niche or people who are in the same field but in different industries. You can all share your experiences with each other about how to grow each other’s blog.

You can also start collaborations after that, or you can promote each other’s products, and so on.

Or maybe, just have cool friends in every place in the world, so when you go to a country, you know you have someone there with whom you can meet up and enjoy the time.

9. A Blog Opens Up New Opportunities

Your blog can help you get new opportunities.

You can meet new people who could offer you a job, or you can start collaborations with others.

Brian Clark was able to team up with people to build several businesses because of his blog. People like StudioPress, Synthesis, Scribe, and others.

Leslie Samuel was able to get a job as a professor in a university because of his blog, Interactive Biology, without having a masters degree yet.

Becuase of having good knowledge of Content Marketing and SEO, I’ve started WordPress plugins business with my younger brother. Some of our plugins are Ultimate Blocks, WP Table Builder, WP Coupons and Deals, etc.

And there are many more stories of people who were able to have many opportunities come their way because of their blog.

You can also get never-ending freelance clients because of your blog and charge the rates you want.

When you become an influencer in your industry, a lot of doors open in front of you. You have demonstrated your expertise, and you have the audience. What else could you want?

10. Running A Blog Is Fun

The last point is that blogging is enjoyable. It is fun to make your blog look the best. It is fun to see your traffic numbers growing. It is fun to interact with new people who learn from you and your content.

It is fun to connect with people in your industry and build a relationship with them.

Building a blog is a lot of fun. I started my first tech blog because I wanted to share knowledge with others. But the main reason I started it was because it was a lot of fun for me back in my University day when I wasn’t earning any cent.

Start your blog, and you will know what I mean.

Conclusion

It is still the right time to start your own blog. Blogging can help you grow as a person as you will learn new skills along the way, and you will build relationships with many great people.

You will be able to share your expertise, grow a following, and earn a decent income along the way. Not to mention the number of opportunities that will open in front of you.

Plus, you’ll enjoy yourself.

Start your blogging journey, and you will thank me along the road that you did so.

Ya, I started a blog recently & blog at Suneethaart.blogspot.com. I posted 15 posts as I am passionate about crafts. Is it a good idea to start a blog on crafts? And I didn’t get Adsense a/c till now.

Yes, it’s a good idea to start a blog on crafts. But it’s a bad idea to start it on Blogspot.com. If possible, start a self-hosted WordPress blog. It’s very easy. The only downside is, you need to invest some money.

And please read this post to understand what kinds of mistakes newbie bloggers make.

And talking about AdSense, it’s not easy to get approved by AdSense now. But you can try AdSense Alternatives.
