Maximum Number of Adsense Ads Allowed Per Page

Adsense team is very strict about its Program Policies and TOS. If they find anyone who is violating their terms and policies, they will disable that Adsense account. Once your account is disabled, it’s very tough to revive again.

So it’s very important to follow the Adsense guidelines to be on the safer side. One of the common mistakes a lot of people make when putting Adsense Ad units on a page is, they put too many Ad units on a single page. But Google has some Ad placement policies where it limits the maximum number of ad units on a page.

So if you’re wondering how many Adsense ads are allowed per page, here is the answer for you.  According to Adsense Ad Placement Policies, Google Adsense publishers can place up to:

1.  Maximum of three Adsense for content units.

2. Maximum of three Adsense Link units.

3. Maximum of Two search boxes on one web page.

That means you can add  maximum 8 Adsense Ad units in a single webpage (3 Contents, 3 text links and 2 search boxes).

Let’s see some details of Adsense Ad Units.

1. Adsense Content Units

Adsense Content Units include text, image or rich media ads. Content units are available in these sizes: 300×250 (Medium Rectangle), 336×280 (Large Rectangle), 728×90 (Leaderboard), 160×600 (Wide Skycraper), 320×50 (Mobile Banner), 234×60 (Half Banner), 320×100 (Large Mobile Banner), 468×60 (Banner), 970×90 (Large Leaderboard), 970×250 (Billboard), 120×600 (Skycraper), 120×240 (Vertical Banner), 300×600 (Large Skycraper).

You can place up to three Adsense for content units on one webpage. This includes a maximum of one 300×600 ad unit (or similar sized ad) per page.

2. Adsense Link Units

Adsense Link Units are closely targeted to the interests of your readers. Link unit is one of the best performing ad units. It works great under navigation menu. Link units are available in these sizes: 728×15 (Horizontal Large), 468×15 (Horizontal Medium), 200×90 (Vertical X-Large), 180×90 (Vertical Large), 160×90 (Vertical Medium), 120×90 (Vertical Small).

You can place up to 2 link units per page.

3. Adsense for Search

So you can place maximum 8 Adsense ads per page. But that doesn’t mean placing 8 ad units will increase your revenue. Sometimes less units perform better. I would suggest you to do some A/B testings to understand what generates more earnings for you. And don’t place too many ads above the fold if you don’t want to get penalized by Panda.

How Some Websites Display More Ad Units than the Maximum?

Now if you’ve noticed that some sites display more ad units than the maximum and you wondering how they do it, here is the answer for you.

They are Premium Adsense Publishers. And Adsense permits them to place more ad units. To become a Premium Adsense Publisher, you’ll have to have minimum ten thousand page views per day. Once Adsense team think that your site is good enough to be a Premium Adsense Publisher, An Adsense representative will contact and make account status to Premium.

Hope this post helps you understand the how many ad units you can put per page. Do let us know how many ads are you using on a webpage.

I have read that google has removed the maximum ads per page limit, According to this source Google ads per page limit lifted ,The new pages have stripped out the reference to 3 ads and replaced it with a link to the valuable inventory policy. Please refer and update your article with relevant information.

Thank you for the insightful post Sir.

I am relatively new to adsense, infact my account is yet to be proven, I am adding more content to my blog by the day.

I followed this tutorial that in the end enabled ads in between my posts, so for instance, I’ve shown 4 posts in my homepage, thereby there are 3 ads in between them, it is just an ad unit but following that tutorial, that single ad unit code I added replicated itself 3 times in between the post. I have other 2 ad units. Does that mean I am showing a total of 5 ad units ? Will I be violating Adsense terms ?

However, when I view any of my post in detail, I see only an ad at the end of the post, and my other 2 ad units I added on my sidebar, making it 3.

    Thank you.

Good to see the info about adsense ads allowed per page, i think we should strictly follow the policies of Google, so that we may get maximum benefits from Google adsense. One more thing I must say about the type of adsense content unit, that Google has introduced one more type and it is “custom ad size” in which the publisher can select the ad size according to his wish and ad space. I think this should also consider.

Good information. I think the eight ad blocks should be sufficient for any web page. The only thing seems to be tough is getting an account on adsense. Thank you for the information.

    Hi Rayhan,
Thanks for the great stuff. Adsense ad placement and how may ads unit should use per page is one of the important tasks for a webmaster. There is a big chance to get more revenue when anyone place one ad unit per page than placing two or three ad units per page.
