6 Reasons Why Your Blog Comments Don’t Get Approved (And How to Fix It)

You spend time commenting on other blogs, but your comments never appear. Usually it is not bad luck: something in the comment looks like spam to the blog owner or to their spam filter.

Blog commenting is still a good way to connect with other bloggers and get noticed, but not for SEO links. Since 2019, WordPress marks comment links with rel="nofollow ugc", so they pass little to no SEO value. Comment to build relationships, and your comments will get approved far more often. Here are 6 reasons comments get rejected, and how to fix each one.

1. You Used Keywords in the Name Field

Names like “Best SEO Tips” or “Cheap Hosting” are the first sign of spam. Most bloggers delete them without reading.

Fix it: use your real name. If you want, add your brand after it, such as “Istiak from RoadToBlogging,” but your name alone works best.

2. Your Comment Is Too Short or Generic

“Great post, thanks for sharing!” could be posted on any article, which is exactly why bloggers treat it as spam.

Fix it: read the post and add something: your experience, a tip, a respectful disagreement, or a real question. Two or three thoughtful sentences are enough.

3. Your Comment Looks AI-Generated

Bloggers now see a flood of polished but empty comments written by AI tools. They summarize the post and add nothing new, and they get deleted fast.

Fix it: write in your own words and mention something specific from the post or your own experience.

4. You Added Links

Links inside comments, especially to your own posts, often send comments straight to moderation or spam, and many blog owners remove them.

Fix it: put your site in the Website field only. Share a link in the comment only when it genuinely helps and you know the blog owner.

5. You Have No Profile Picture

Comments without a profile picture look less trustworthy, and if a spam filter like Akismet catches your comment by mistake, a familiar face makes the owner more likely to rescue it.

Fix it: set up a free Gravatar with a clear photo. It appears on most WordPress blogs automatically.

6. Your Comment Is Rude

Disagreement is welcome on most blogs. Insults, swearing, and personal attacks are not.

Fix it: disagree politely and explain why.

Still Not Approved?

Some blogs approve comments manually and take days to review them.
Some blogs close comments on older posts.
Read the blog’s comment policy, or contact the owner if you think a real comment was caught by mistake.

Yes, I could very well relate to some of the areas you pointed out in this post.
I receive many such one line or one word comments on a daily basis and to point out this trend I have posted an article on my page under the title “Philipscom comment policy” even after publishing that post I still get a load of comments in my inbox and sadly i send them all to my spam box.

Honest post on how to submit comment on others blog. Most of the people do always silly things when they comment like in name section use keyword and the comment is not related to the post. Then how come the blogger will approve. First thing we should respect the blogger who is sharing the knowledge with us and give the decent comment on the post if any points are missing we can add our opinion in the comment. Hey Istiak,

Most bloggers have added a page called comment policy to their blog. So, it is better to read comment policy page before commenting.

Great post indeed with some great points. When I comment on others blog I always try to drop a valuable comments with some appropriate words. And set up Gravator, It’s really help to get comments approved.

Great post Istiak. I always try to keep my comments as engaging as possible. I have one question, how come saying something like “good post” isnt enough? I feel sometimes that’s all I have to say and I want to make sure the author is getting feedback.

  Gary, there is noting wrong with the comment “Good Post” if you are the regular commentar of the blog. But if it’s your first time, these types of one line comments create a bad impression.
