GetResponse Review: Is It the Right Email Marketing Tool for You?

GetResponse review

GetResponse was the email marketing tool I chose after a free tool left me with no list and no way to automate anything, and it ran this blog’s newsletter for years. It has changed a lot since then: what was an affordable autoresponder service is now an all-in-one marketing platform with AI, a website builder, webinars, and ecommerce tools. This GetResponse review, updated October 2026, covers the current plans and prices, what it does well, where it falls short, and who should choose it.

Key Features

Email creator and AI

GetResponse email editor

The drag and drop editor has sections, blocks, saved templates, and mobile preview, and the AI email generator writes a complete campaign (copy, layout, images) from a short prompt and your brand details. Subject line and AI campaign generators are on every plan.

Autoresponders and automation

GetResponse autoresponders

Classic time-based autoresponders (send email 3 on day 7) are on every plan. The visual automation builder on Marketer and above adds conditions, filters, tags, scoring, and ecommerce triggers, with prebuilt templates for welcome series, abandoned carts, post-purchase, and re-engagement. It is the best balance of power and simplicity I have used.

Landing pages, forms, and popups

GetResponse landing pages

Landing page and form builders are included on every plan, with templates, A/B testing, and popups and inline forms for your WordPress site via the official plugin. The Creator plan adds a full website builder with AI, so a new project can run entirely on GetResponse.

Webinars

Unique among mainstream email tools: live and on-demand webinars with registration pages, chat, polls, screen sharing, recordings, and up to 300 attendees on Creator (more on Enterprise). If you run workshops or sell courses, this replaces a separate webinar subscription.

Ecommerce

Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, and PrestaShop sync products and orders, enabling abandoned cart emails, AI product recommendations, promo codes, and revenue reporting per campaign.

Reporting and deliverability

Reports cover opens, clicks, conversions, revenue, and automation performance, with Google Analytics integration. GetResponse publishes a 99 percent deliverability rate and consistently scores well in independent inbox tests.

Getting Started: Creating Your First Campaign

After signing up, the dashboard offers quick actions. The basic flow is:

  1. Create a list (Contacts > Lists > Create list). Set the sender name and address and the confirmation email under list settings.
  2. Add a signup form (Forms and popups) and install it on WordPress with the GetResponse plugin or an embed code.
  3. Create a newsletter (Tools > Newsletters > Create newsletter), pick a template or let the AI generate one, send a test, then send or schedule.
  4. Create an autoresponder (Tools > Autoresponders) for your welcome sequence, choosing the day after signup each message goes out.
Creating a time-based autoresponder

Our separate guide walks through setting up GetResponse step by step.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Easy to use for beginners, with AI doing much of the design work.
  • Automation builder that scales from a welcome series to ecommerce flows.
  • Webinars, landing pages, and a website builder included.
  • 30-day trial with no card, 24/7 chat support.
  • Good deliverability and reporting.

Cons

  • No free plan (MailerLite and Brevo have one).
  • Starter allows only one automation workflow.
  • Costs rise quickly past 10,000 contacts.
  • Some advanced features (transactional email, SMS) are Enterprise only.

GetResponse vs the Alternatives

Compared with iContact, GetResponse has far more automation and growth tools. Against ActiveCampaign, GetResponse is easier and cheaper but ActiveCampaign’s automation goes deeper. Against MailerLite, MailerLite is cheaper with a free plan but lacks webinars and ecommerce depth. Kit suits creators selling digital products; GetResponse suits anyone who wants one tool for the whole funnel. For enterprise comparisons, see GetResponse vs Marketo.

Verdict: Is GetResponse Right for You?

Yes, if you want email marketing plus automation, landing pages, and possibly webinars without stitching together several tools, and you are comfortable paying from $19 a month. It remains one of the easiest platforms to start on and one of the few that grows with a business all the way to ecommerce and events. If you only need a simple free newsletter for a tiny list, MailerLite is the better starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is GetResponse free?

No. There is a 30-day free trial of every plan with no credit card, but no permanent free tier.

Does GetResponse work with WordPress?

Yes. The official GetResponse for WordPress plugin adds forms and popups, syncs subscribers, and tracks site visitors for automation.

Can I sell courses or paid newsletters with GetResponse?

Yes, on the Creator plan, which includes course creation, paid newsletters, and premium content tools alongside webinars.

How is GetResponse’s deliverability?

Strong. It maintains its own infrastructure, offers dedicated IPs on Enterprise, and supports DKIM, SPF, and DMARC setup for your domain, which you should complete before sending.

thanks for the post on GetResponse. This is my first day into testing GR’s 30day free trial. I currently use the paid version of AWeber. I have only been with them for about a month and chose AWeber because of the preponderance of top bloggers choosing and recommending AWeber.

But I have found AW to be both confusing and not user-friendly (where there interfaces are concerned). From the little I have seen of GR, theirs are much clearer (for a newbie) and better user interface.
    – Do you think this is true?
    – Have you used AW? and if so, what did you think of AW compared to GR?

I know you may be biased but do you think it would be a wise move for me to move from AW to GR? I don’t want to regret it down the track. I am not experienced with either to make a truly educated decision. (If i do make the move, this is a good time as my subscription list is still quite small). Thanks for any advice you can give.

I’ve never tried Aweber. But I’ve been using GR for more than 1 years. I am really happy with its services. What I’d recommend is, take the advantage of free trial and decide which one to choose. Let me know if you have any other questions.
