How to Submit Your Sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools

Most bloggers submit their sitemap to Google and forget Bing. That is a mistake. Bing’s index powers Yahoo search and is used by DuckDuckGo and several AI assistants, including Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT search, so being properly indexed in Bing helps you show up in more places.

Submitting your sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools takes about five minutes. Here is how.

Step 1: Make Sure You Have a Sitemap

A sitemap is a file listing your site’s important URLs so search engines can find them. If you use an SEO plugin, you already have one:

• Rank Math or Yoast SEO: yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml
• No SEO plugin: WordPress’s built-in sitemap at yourdomain.com/wp-sitemap.xml

Step 2: Sign In to Bing Webmaster Tools

Go to Bing Webmaster Tools and sign in with a Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account.

Step 3: Add Your Site (the Easy Way: Import From Google)

If your site is already verified in Google Search Console, choose Import your sites from GSC. Bing imports your verified sites and their sitemaps in a couple of clicks, with no extra verification. You are done.

Step 3 (Alternative): Add Your Site Manually

1. Choose Add your site manually and enter your full site URL.
2. Pick a verification method. The easiest for WordPress is the HTML meta tag: copy only the code inside content="...".
3. In WordPress, paste the code into your SEO plugin: Rank Math (General Settings > Webmaster Tools > Bing) or Yoast (Settings > Site connections > Bing). Save.
4. Back in Bing, click Verify.

Step 4: Submit Your Sitemap

In Bing Webmaster Tools, open Sitemaps in the left menu, click Submit sitemap, paste your sitemap URL, and submit. The status changes to Success once Bing processes it.

Step 5: Turn On IndexNow (Recommended)

IndexNow instantly notifies Bing (and Yandex, Naver, and others) when you publish or update a post. In Rank Math, enable the Instant Indexing module; otherwise install the official IndexNow plugin. New posts can then appear in Bing within hours.
