WordPress Visual Editor has some decent buttons which are almost enough to create an amazing blog post. But if you want to change the Font size, Font family or background color of the text, you need to do it manually by using HTML.
It might be tough if you don’t have any HTML knowledge. Luckily, WordPress Visual Editor is TinyMCE – an open source WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor. Like everything, you can enhance it by using a plugin.
There is an awesome plugin named TinyMCE Advanced that allows you to add more buttons to WordPress Visual Editor. The amazing thing about the plugin is, it lets you add, remove and arrange the buttons that are shown on your Visual Editor.
You will be able to access a lot of features that are not available in default Visual Editor. Here are some noticeable features of the plugin:
- Enabling TinyMCE menu.
- Creating and editing tables.
- Several options for listings.
- Changing Font family and Font size.
- Ability to search and replace in the editor.

How to Add More Buttons to Visual Editor
At first, you need to install the plugin. You can find TinyMCE Advanced plugin here.
Once you’ve activated the plugin, go to WordPress dashboard > Setting and click on ‘TinyMCE Advanced’.
Then you’ll be landed a page like this one.
You can see all the additional buttons under ‘Unused Buttons’. Just drag buttons from ‘Unused Buttons’ and drop them to the toolbar. You can remove buttons from toolbar by dropping them to the Unused buttons.
You can also rearrange the buttons in the toolbar by using drag & drop. Once you’ve done, click on ‘Save Changes’ button.
Now your WordPress Post Editor will be look like this: (If it doesn’t show the all buttons, click on ‘Toolbar Toggle’ button)
Yes, it has changed completely. Now you have more buttons to customize and style your new blog post. Another amazing thing about the plugin is, it will import styles from your CSS.
