The 9 Best Laptops for Blogging and Writing

Best laptops for blogging and writing

A blogging laptop does not need to be powerful. It needs a keyboard you enjoy typing on for hours, a battery that lasts a full day away from a socket, a screen that is easy on the eyes, and enough speed to run a browser with many tabs, an image editor, and video calls without stuttering. Almost any modern laptop is fast enough for writing; the differences that matter are the keyboard, battery, weight, and screen.

This list was fully rewritten in October 2026. The 2018 models in the original version are long discontinued, so every pick below is a current model, chosen from long-term reviews and my own experience writing on Mac and Windows laptops.

1. Apple MacBook Air 13 (M5)

Apple MacBook Air 13 (M5) for blogging

The MacBook Air is the laptop I recommend to most bloggers and writers. The M5 chip is far faster than writing needs, and the fanless design means it is completely silent. Apple rates the battery at around 18 hours, which in practice means a full working day plus evening with no charger. The keyboard is quiet and precise, the trackpad is the best on any laptop, and it weighs about 2.7 pounds. I switched to Mac years ago and have never looked back.

2. Apple MacBook Air 15 (M5)

Apple MacBook Air 15 (M5) for blogging

The same machine with a 15.3-inch screen and a slightly larger battery. The extra screen space lets you keep research next to your draft, and it is still thin and fanless. Choose it if your laptop is your main computer and you rarely use an external monitor.

3. Apple MacBook Pro 14

Apple MacBook Pro 14 for blogging

Overkill for writing, but the right choice if you also edit video for YouTube, process large photo libraries, or record podcasts. It has fans for sustained performance, a brighter mini-LED display, more ports (HDMI, SD card), and an exceptional battery. If you only write, save the money and buy the Air.

4. Microsoft Surface Laptop 7

Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 for blogging

The best Windows laptop for writers. Its keyboard rivals Apple\’s, and the tall 3:2 touchscreen shows more of your draft than a typical widescreen laptop. The Snapdragon X versions run quietly and last as long as or longer than a MacBook Air on battery. Check that any specialist Windows software you rely on runs on Arm before buying; mainstream apps, browsers, and Office all run natively.

5. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon for blogging

ThinkPad keyboards have the deepest key travel and most satisfying feel of any ultraportable, which is why many professional writers will not use anything else. The X1 Carbon is light, durable, has plenty of ports, and gets 10 to 12 hours of mixed use. It is expensive at full price but frequently discounted.

6. LG Gram Pro 16

LG Gram Pro 16 for blogging

If you want a big 16-inch screen without the weight, the Gram Pro is remarkable: under 1.2 kg, lighter than many 13-inch laptops, with a large battery that lasts all day. Ideal for writers who work from cafes and co-working spaces but want room for side-by-side windows.

7. Acer Aspire 14 AI

Acer Aspire 14 AI for blogging

A capable Windows laptop for well under $1,000, with a current Intel Core Ultra processor, plenty of RAM on most configurations, and a touchscreen. A good choice for new bloggers who want Windows without paying premium prices.

8. Dell 16

Dell 16 for blogging

Dell\’s mainstream 16-inch laptop gives you a large 16:10 screen and a full keyboard with a number pad for under $1,000. It is heavier and its battery shorter than the premium picks, so it suits bloggers who mostly work at a desk.

9. ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34

ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34 for blogging

If you write in Google Docs or the WordPress editor and need nothing else, a Chromebook Plus is the cheapest good option at around $399. It boots in seconds, is hard to break, and its web-first setup is naturally distraction-free. It is not suited to heavy image editing or desktop software.

What to Look For in a Blogging Laptop

  • Keyboard: the most important part. Try it in a store if you can; comfort over hours matters more than any spec.
  • Battery: aim for 10+ hours of real use if you work away from home.
  • Screen: 13 to 14 inches for portability, 15 to 16 inches if it is your only screen. A 16:10 or 3:2 ratio shows more text.
  • Memory: 16 GB is the comfortable minimum in 2026 for many browser tabs and an image editor; 8 GB is fine on a Chromebook.
  • Storage: 256 GB is enough if you keep files in the cloud; 512 GB gives room for photos and video.
  • Weight: under 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) if you carry it daily.

Pair your laptop with the right software; our list of writing tools for bloggers covers editors, grammar checkers, and focus apps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mac or Windows for blogging?

Either works; WordPress, Google Docs, and every blogging tool run in the browser. Choose the system you are comfortable with. Macs lead on battery life and trackpads; Windows offers more choice and lower prices.

Is a Chromebook good enough for blogging?

Yes, if you work in the browser. It is less suited to heavy photo or video editing or desktop apps.

How much should I spend?

Around $400 gets a capable Chromebook, $700 to $1,000 a good Windows laptop or the base MacBook Air. Spending more mostly buys better build quality, screens, and battery, not writing speed.

I’ve had an Air since 2011 and looking to see what else is out there; think I’m sticking with what I have – served me well.

I’ve been using Pro for last few years. It’s working great for me. If you even want to change, go with Apple Pro. It’s awesome. Now I am mainly working on iMac. When it comes to the desktop, iMac beats everything out there.
