15 Best WordPress Block Editor Plugins (Gutenberg Blocks Ranked)

The WordPress block editor (also called Gutenberg) ships with a solid set of core blocks: Paragraph, Heading, Image, Columns, Buttons, and a few dozen more. That is enough for a simple post. It stops being enough the moment you need a gallery, a table of contents, a pricing table, a popup, or a proper slider.

A block editor plugin fills those gaps. Some add a whole library of new blocks. Others add one specialized block that does a single job (tables, galleries, sliders, polls) far better than a general library can.

Some of the most popular block plugins from a few years ago have since been retired or abandoned, while some of the best options today are fairly new. Everything below reflects what is available and actively maintained now.

To make the list easier to use, the plugins are split into two groups:

• Block libraries: one plugin, many blocks. Pick one of these as your foundation.
• Specialized block plugins: one job, done well. Add these on top when a library’s version of that block is not enough.

The short version

• Best for content-rich posts and pages: Ultimate Blocks. Accordions, tabs, table of contents, schema-ready review and how-to blocks, all light enough for everyday posts.
• Best for building full page layouts: Kadence Blocks. The deepest layout controls of any free block library.
• Best AI-assisted page building: Spectra Blocks. Generate a page from a prompt, then edit it as normal blocks.
• Best lightweight option for developers: GenerateBlocks. A handful of blocks that output very clean code.
• Best for ready-made designs: Stackable. A large design library and a global design system.
• Best free plugin with forms and popups built in: Otter Blocks.
• Biggest free block count: Essential Blocks.
• Best newcomer with builder features: aBlocks. Form, popup, and theme builders in one plugin.
• Best specialized picks: Tableberg (tables), Galleryberg (galleries), Sliderberg (sliders), ConvertForce (popups and bars), OpinionCamp (polls), and AssistCamp (knowledge bases).
