The very first step of starting a blog or website is to buy a domain name. The domain name is the unique name of your blog/site.

For example, RoadToBlogging.Com is my domain name. Whenever you type this domain name on your browser, you will enter my blog.

If you are planning to purchase a domain name, you are in the right place. In this post, I will show you how to buy a domain name from GoDaddy for just $0.99.

Before moving further, I’d love to give you some tips on choosing a good domain name.

  • Go with .com extension if possible.
  • Make it easy to spell and remember.
  • Avoid copyright violations. You can’t use a brand name on your domain.
  • Avoid hyphens, numbers, and obscure terms.
  • You can use your name as a domain name if you can’t choose a name.

Once you’ve determined the name of your domain, now it’s time to buy your desired domain name.

When it comes to buying a domain name, I’d suggest you go with leading domain registrars like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc. Here I’ll show you how to register a domain name from GoDaddy. GoDaddy is the world’s largest domain name registrar company.

Follow these simple steps to buy (register) a domain name from GoDaddy.

Step 1: Go To GoDaddy.com And Search For The Domain Name

At first, go to GoDaddy.com and then type your desired domain name and click on “Search”.

Step 2: Check The Domain Availability & Add It To The Cart

If the domain name is not available, it will show “[domain] is taken”. And it will suggest you some available domain name based on your domain search.

If the domain name is available, it will show “[domain] is available”. Just click on ‘Add to Cart’. (Make sure your domain name’s spelling is correct).

A popup will appear from the right-hand side. GoDaddy automatically adds 2 years of registration. Just select 1 year and click on ‘Continue to Cart’.

On the next page, GoDaddy will ask you to buy ‘Domain Privacy & Protection’. What it does is hiding your all personal information (address, phone number, email, etc) from public.

If you want to invest some money to hide your personal information, just keep it as it is. Otherwise, select ‘No Thanks’.

Then uncheck ‘Start your website for FREE’. Otherwise, it will cost you after one month. And then click on ‘Continue to Cart’.

You’ll be landed to the check out.

Step 3: Proceed To Checkout

Now you need to proceed to check out to complete your purchase. Your total cost will be $4.99 if you haven’t took additional services.

Simply click on ‘Check Out’ button.

Step 4: Create An Account On GoDaddy

If you have already an account on GoDaddy, just sign in to your account. If you don’t have any, you need to create one. Just give your email, username and password, create the account.

Step 5: Enter Your Billing & Account Information And Complete The Payment

On the next steps, you need to enter your Billing information, and Payment Information.

GoDaddy has several payment options. To reveal this offer, you have to use Credit/Debit/Prepaid Card or Checking Account.

After entering your all information, click on ‘Save’.

Complete your payment. Your account will be activated automatically and you will get a confirmation message to your email. You will also get your login details there.

That’s it. Now you have a domain name.

    Ishtika bro, is it possible to make a website first and then go gor domain buy n hosting plans. As making website is itself a lengthy process.

      Yeah, it’s possible. But you need to a bit of tech savvy to do that. I don’t recommend that. It’s better to buy the domain and web hosting first and then simply install WordPress.

    Hi Istiak
    i want to register domain name from godaddy but facing payment issues, while checkout i saw there is no PayPal option to pay[and i have only paypal account], there is only credit card and Checking Account though i also don’t have credit card so i have created account on Virtual Credit Card on EntroPay but still they are showing following error

    “There was a problem processing your transaction. Please verify your payment information or use an alternate form of payment.”

    I have purchased so many themes by using this Virtual Credit card also purchase domain name from NameCheap or Name.com but GoDaddy doesn’t accepting this card, Name.com Gives Domain name at $9 and NameCheap Giving .COM for $10 and GoDaddy Giving At Just $0.99 so i would like to go with GoDaddy

    Any Help Would Be Appreciated :)

      Recently I bought a domain name from GoDaddy through my Payoneer MasterCard. If you have Payoneer card, you use that. Or else, you can give another try with your Virtual Card.

    Thanks for putting up this wonderful article. Why signing up with Hostgator or any hosting company, can’t GoDaddy host it for you as well at that same cost? Am just asking to get the full details.

      Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t host your site on domain registrar.

      1. Hosting services like HostGator, Bluehost offer better services than the domain registrars.
      2. It’s good for security.
      3. You can change your host easily if needed.

    On January 2015, I have bought 2 domains with ‘Deluxe’ hosting plan and I am still there. I did not face any problem with them. Godaddy is really great. There is a common complaint that Godday has only “call” option for communication. As they are not available in live chat or email, people who are not native English speaker face problems. I am not good enough in speaking English. But, I have a different solution to talk to them. It’s their facebook fan page – https://www.facebook.com/GoDaddy/. When you put a message there, you can hear them quickly.

    I am from dhaka and my concern is to buy a new domain from godaddy or namecheap but i have not any master card to do it. Can i get any mastercard from IFIC bank of bangladesh and will it work? have u any idea please share with me. or if you have other options from where i can manage mastercard from any bank of our country please share.

      Though I never use Mastercard to buy a domain name, But I am quite sure that Mastercard from Bangledeshi bank will work for you. Before applying for Mastercard, you can ask the banker whether you can use the card for online shopping. Hope it helps.

      Hey Vivek, Actually it depends on your site topics. If you want to make a new Brand with your domain name then you can choose a different name like labnol.org. Or if you want to choose a domain name that is related your blog topic then it can be like roadtoblogging.com.
      If you are going to start personal blog, then it could be vivek.com.
